What are good movies that describe and go through the lives of different generations? What are like different movies that go through good situations like in American Beauty, Wet Hot American Summer and so on like that.

1. Parenthood by Ron Howard was pretty good. It starred Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Keanu Reeves, and a number of other well known actors.
2. If I understand your question, one that comes to mind is "Where the Heart Is" with Natalie Portman. You get to see her at 18, Ashley Judd in her mid 20's, and Stockard Channing in her 50's or so. And all their lives come together with hard times intertwined. (If that's what you're looking for) ? I don't think this pertains to your question, but another good movie is the mini-series The 60's. It goes all the way through the 1960's with a white family & black family & is great!! Take care!
3. If These Walls Could Talk and If These Walls Could Talk 2 show how abortion affects people in different decades (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s). It doesn't follow the same family, but different generations.
