When I burn dvds and play them the sound is choppy and distorted?

Whenever I burn dvds and play them on my computer, or on various dvd players the video is fine but the audio sounds choppy and is distorted. Is it the dvd burning program I'm using or is it my computer? I use the program (Nero) for burning cds too and the cds come out perfectly but whenever I make dvds the audio of the dvd doesnt sound right.
