How come DVDs cant all be region free, Why do they have to be seperated into different regions? I have seen DVDs that are region free and to me they are as good quality than the DVDs that have regions to them.

I use a mac. What software do I need to take multiple dvds and create a short highlight reel from them? These dvds were made from a DV tape I presume. I need to get the content onto a video editor so that I can cut out areas a create a highlight reel from them. The file on the dvd won't load directly into a video editing program. What else will I need to convert it to a file that idvd or something similar will accept? Please help.

How come my dvd player skips audio on all dvds I play on my pc? I have several programs that play dvds on my computer and everyone of them has skipping in the audio when it plays. The dvds and the computer are brand new. Does this have something to do with my default dvd player settings? If so how can I fix this?

How to play non US DVDs on a Mac iBook G4? OK, I am only asking about legit DVDs - I'm not pirating them or anything like that. My iBook allows you to play any region DVDs for 10 times, then the 10th time it "locks" in a region forever, so you have to pick a region after the 10th time that you only want to watch US DVDs or UK DVDs, etc. I'm on my 8th choice right now. Is there a permanent hack for this that will allow me to play any DVDs I want without having to try and reset the region counter in the DVD software? I love British shows and it's cheaper for me to buy PAL DVDs and watch them rather than the US coded (and edited) DVDs, I also like watching Anime and can get NTSC Japan DVDs cheaper as well. I don't want to or have time to rip the video and make new DVDs, I own the legit studio studio release DVDs and just want to watch them without any trouble. I also don't want to get a multi-region DVD player for my laptop but I think that's my only real option. Any suggestions? Oh, and PC users, this happens on PCs too! :)

All I want to do is two things: 1) Backup my DVDs to my Mac so I can watch them directly from the hard drive (ie, while traveling, etc.). 2) Copying my DVDs so that I have hard copies of them in case something happens to the originals. I have purchased a program called Popcorn 2 (reviews said it was supposed to be fantastic). However, it won't copy/backup "css encrypted" DVDs -- ie, any movie DVD. So I'm trying to figure out how I can get around this. As far as I know, what I'm trying to do isn't illegal -- I just want backups of my OWN DVDs that I have PURCHASED. :) If anyone could help me out with some suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Dual Layer DVDs - are they worthwhile? Is the quality the same as the original DVD? I have a dual layer DVD burner and recently purchased some dual layer DVDs to make full use of this burner. I usually seem to be burning compressed DVDs so I am assuming I lose some quality on normal DVDs. I use DVD decrypter to rip DVDs and DVD shrink to back them up. Will the movies I back up be completely identical in quality to the original? Also, do most DVD players read Dual Layer DVDs?

"Used DVDs" Section on DVD stores? Has anyone bought dvds from this section? Do prices change a lot from new? Last weekend I went to the mall, and saw in this music and dvd store a section of "Used Dvds". I didnt look at prices or anything, so has anyone bought a dvd from this section? Do prices decrease form their original price (when they were new). The dvds were wrapped inside a plastic bag, do stores let you see the quality of the dvds?, u know to see if the cds have a scratch, or if the boxes are mistreated, etc. Well, I hope someone can help me. burning dvds? i bought my sister a blank dvds we always rent dvds from hollywood video and we never try to burn them on a disc and my sister doesnt know how to burn them so how do you burn dvds to blank dvds wht sites can you burn movies from and if not how do i get them on period

Burning DVDs slowly? i was burning dvds a few days ago really quickly on my laptop, when it suddenly started burning really slowly. Tried first with DVDfab then dvdshrink 3.2, but both are now burning the movies really slowly. They WERE burning at about 6x by the time they finished (starting at 0.1x and working their way up) Now it wont burn any faster than 0.9x at its top speed. They are set to burn at either maximum speed for one and 8 speed on the other program. This happened inbetween burnings, no new programs were installed inbetween or recently. I think its copying from dvd to hard drive slower as well. (and nothing to do with copy protection because my DVDs dont have them) All DVDs have the same type of files on them, burning an old DVD that went quickly before is now slow like the rest, so it's not the DVDs themselves... What could have caused it, and potential fixes? same batch of disks...and copying is going slower as well as burning.... trying to figgure out what caused the sudden drop in speeds :(

Could dvds that are burned ruin a dvd player? Some family members of mine bought some dvds that were I guess what you'd call "pirated" or whatever. The ones that arent out yet but ppl download them and burn them on dvds then sell them. but anywho....I watched about a good couple of these movies and nothing seemed to be wrong, but now my dvd player will try not to play regular dvds. I'll have to eject it and move the dvd around or turn it off & on a few times. SO....could these burned dvds ruin my dvd player?

Copied dvds? Ok we have a dvd player that has always played copied dvds. We purchased a new computer that copies dvds, we use nero and dvd shrink/fab. For some reason now, we copy a dvd and it wont play in our dvd player. We are not doing anything different, still using the same dvds, same dvd player, same programs. The only thing different is a new computer. Can anyone help me figure out this problem so we can watch our copied movies in our dvd player. the player will still play all other copied dvds, but not the ones we just copied with the new computer... Seems funny. Is it maybe the new computer figurations? we use to have XP, but new system has VISTA yes older dvds plat in dvd player, yes the newer dvds play in the computer just not the dvd player, yes dvds are supported by style of use.

Mini-DVDs for Hitachi camera? For Christmas I got a Hitachi DZ-GX5020A camcorder and got some mini dvds separately. They are Memorex mini dvd-r's (double sided). When I use my camera, the dvds seem to be working fine and recording. But when I go to use my dvd (watch it or rip it) it doesn't work AT ALL. I've tried everything with these suckers and don't know what's doing on. I think it may either be the camera or the mini's. Personally, I think it's the mini-dvds, but I could be wrong. Anyways, my question is... If any of you have a Hitachi camera or this specific camera, please let me know what kind of mini-dvds you use! Please and thank you!

Would you buy Japan Idol dvds off of a seller that only charges $6 for them? They are dvdrs, not authentic? Hello, I buy alot of Japan Idol dvds. Since they are rare in the USA, they are expensive, and most of the time I have to pay $45.00-$60.00 for each dvd. I also have to have them shipped from Japan, so shipping can get as expensive as well. I recently found a seller who sells Japan Idol dvds for only $6.00, with free shipping. He told me up front that they are copies. But they look 100% authentic.He is from Thailand, I have ordered with him several of times.I'm very happy with the dvds he sells.. He even has the artwork that goes with the dvds... My question is.. Would you buy off of him since he charges $6.00, instead of paying $45-$60 for each dvd?? Whats the difference in a 100% authentic dvd, compared to a DVD-R? I have noticed no difference, the quality of his dvds are EXCELLENT!! Is this legal? Is he allowed to sell copies like this?? I can not tell the difference in his compared to the authentic dvds. What should i do?continue to buy off of him? or buy authentic japan idol dvds?

When ripping dvds my computer will suddenly and randomly shut off. Any Ideas? I've been ripping dvds forever and all of a sudden my computer wont let me. Like I said above, when trying to rip a dvd my computer will suddenly and randomly shut off (sometimes as soon as I start ripping or in the middle or at the end, and sometimes when I'm burning). I cannot turn it back on until I unplug it and wait for the power to run down, then plug it back in and turn it on. It does this when ripping dvds and once when burning. I CAN watch dvds without a problem. Does anybody have an idea what the problem might be? I dont think its the power to the drive or the IDE cable because I can watch dvds. It cant be the programs I'm using (CloneDVD2 & AnyDVD) because Ive had them for a few years and had no problems. Could it be the drive itself (ripping/burning functions)? Or could it be something completely different? Any help would be appreciated!

How many DVDs/CDs is too many? I know you all might think I sound silly asking this question, but lately I have been wondering if there is such a thing as owning too many DVDs/CDs. You see, I love collecting DVDs/CDs and I have A LOT OF THEM! However, sometimes when I feel like going through a few of my things to see if there is anything I want to sell to make some quick money (also to give my bedroom a nice spring-clean), the first thought that comes to my head is going through my DVD/CD collection in the hope of finding something that I can sell since they are quite effective and make quick money. But, most of the time when I do this, I find I never want to sell any of my DVDs/CDs because I still really love them and I know that if I ever sold them I would only be upset and want to buy them back. And when I do sell some, it's only something like 2- 4 out of what seems like over 130 discs. So, my question is simply this, is there a limit as to how many DVDs, CDs, books and anything that a person can own?

Are these DVDs burned? I bought a couple of DVDs off of eBay from a seller who said that it was the original DVDs ... btu when i got them the covers looked a little weird and so when i opened them the dvds didn't look realistic. They had what looked like the sticker paper stuff you can buy at Target and what not on the front and the play screen had pictures of each chapter and a little play button. The backs of the DVDs were also purple. I just wanted opinions before I report the person because I wasn't 100% sure. Especially since the movies are from the early 90's and I wasn't sure if that made any difference at all.

Are these DVDs on a classified website legal? I found a website -- sell.com -- that sells TV series DVDs. I e-mailed one seller and asked if these were original dvds or burned/downloaded. He e-mailed me that the dvds were not commercially available, which didn't answer the question. Burning dvds for this dummy? Okay. The story is this: In december I'm going to florida for a week, and i bought myself a portable dvd player to entertain myself with on the way. I have a bunch of dvds, but recently my friend send me a movie on the computer. I have it saved as some type of file that can be played on windows media player, if it matters. My computer does not have a dvd burner, but my friends does. Its some sort of basic dell. I've never burned any dvds, and she's never burned any dvds. How do i burn this movie onto a dvd so i can enjoy it on my way to florida? Please explain very simply, because I'm not the best at computers, nor have i ever used dvd burning tech. before.

Do DVDs wear out? I have searched online and came across no conclusive answers... I have a dvd that is only about 3 years old and I've watched it several times (ok lots of times). Now, it seems to either be stalling or pixelating (or both). I am quite careful in handling my dvds. I have tried cleaning it (even though there are no apparent scratches), cleaning the DVD player and I have played it on 3 different players with the same results. Do DVDs wear thin with use like a VHS tape? I have thought of making copies of each and every one of my dvds, but since I have over 700, that seems like too big of a chore. Can someone please tell me if there is some way for the Apple's MacBook Pro laptop to play different regions for DVDs when ever we want? Right now I have the laptop set to play region 2 DVDs. I can change the region setting 5 times only... I have region 1 & 2 DVDs and would like my DVD drive to act as a multi regional DVD player. I decided to put this claim to the test and bought the following 3 major summer hits on pirate DVDs. Here is what I found: Pirates of the Carribean: a turgid film based on a theme park ride, comprising a series of quests each becoming more inconsequential, until the viewer almost loses the will to live. Cars: a professionally engineered film but flavourless and selfsatisfied, lacking any semblance of a quality script and dialogue. Superman Returns: a stolid, dull film that reinvents the story of Jesus sacrificing himself for the rest of us, but this time staring a white bread all American guy in tights. The DVD industry was right - in each case I had bought a poor quality DVD, which was not worth watching. Has anyone else out there wasted their money with these pirate DVDs?

Which will look better in a DVD Player with upconversion (1080i) a standard def DVD or an HD DVD? ...or is there even a difference? Ripped DVDs and Media Centers? For the last year i have been trying to use an old PC as a media center. I am trying to take DVDs on my PC and stream them to my Main TV or transfer them to the PC connected to the TV. I have looked at BackStage which emmulates the AppleTV look and feel and TVersity an neither gives me what I am looking for. I have a base Directory called MY DVDs and each folder in the directory is an entire Movie(w AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS sub folders) I want to use an interface to scan the MY DVD directory and display these movies and preferably show album art similar to the AppleTV interface. When I do that with TVersity, i have a bunch of VOB files out of order from the main movie and no way of knowing which movie each file belongs to. I am also looking to preserve the Digital Audio on these files via fiber out. I looked at the APPLETV as a solution using Handbrake to encode these DVDs to a single file, but the quality is not great and I thats over 200 movies to encode. I already have ripped the movies on my NAS and have removed everything so that all i have is the main movie and the DTS, Dobly Digital Audio. Anyone who used DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter knows the directory structure I have. I used Divx but it loses the surround sound. I want something that can understand the VIDEO_TS.IFO in each directory and organize it like APPLET TV does with its mp4 files you get from iTunes. I want to be able to navigate my videos using album art and make a media center so easy my grandma can use it. I dont care about recording TV, i got a DVR for that and I have used CyberLink to what movies by locating the DVD on disk. I want something simpler, think APPLETV, Centerstage is available but not quite what I want.

Writing DVDs speed issue? Is there any issue involve with when writing dvds in different speeds? I burned some of my dvds in 16x and they are not working and the dvds that I burned at 2x or 4x works well. Is this can be a writing speed issue or something else? bootlegged dvds on ebay? recently i just bought all 5 seasons of an anime series, but i just found out they're all bootlegged, and i just bought another set, that are once again bootlegged, now i have a whole bunch of bootlegged dvds. my friend said i should report this to ebay, and try and get my money back, but i don't think it'l do any good.
